Unit 8 Data Analysis and Application

Introduction

The main purpose of this paper is to construct a linear regression model to determine whether test performance (DV) is affected by anxiety (IV). In order to achieve that, a researcher designed a study to see how level of anxiety (A1= low, A2 = medium, A3 = high) predicts exam performance (the dependent variable).

Description of the Data File

The dataset used consists of n = 15 valid cases, which correspond to the test scores of n = 15 subjects, along with the anxiety level for each. The anxiety variable has 3 levels, 1= low, 2 = medium, and 3 = high. The dependent variable is Test Performance , which is measured at the interval level and the independent variable is Anxiety , which is measured at the ordinal level.

Testing the Ass umptions

The main assumptions of the regression model are that there is a linear association between the dependent variable and the predictors, and that the error term of the model is normally distributed with constant variance. The plot below shows a histogram of the dependent variable
