Criteria against which your work will be evaluated are listed from most to least desirable.  Most assignments will contain elements of several levels.

  • At what level are skills mastered? Assignment shows full mastery of all skills; assignment shows mastery of major skills; there is partial mastery of major skills; limited mastery is shown; no mastery is shown or assignment is not done.
  • Is there evidence of conceptual comprehension? There is evidence of full conceptual comprehension; comprehension of major concepts is demonstrated; partial comprehension is shown, with some gaps; limited conceptual comprehension is shown; no comprehension is shown or assignment not done.
  • Is there evidence of critical thinking and successful problem solving? Assignment shows original or creative analysis or synthesis of learning and/or originality in problem solving; there is some evidence of analysis and synthesis of learning and mostly successful problem solving; there is limited analysis, synthesis of learning and partially successful problem solving; there is very limited critical thinking and/or problem solving with significant errors; there is no critical thinking and/or problem solving is unsuccessful or assignment is not done.
  • Is there evidence of independent learning? Significant exploration of outside sources is apparent; shows some exploration of outside sources; limited use of outside exploration is demonstrated; shows little or no exploration of outside sources; there is no use of outside sources. [Note: This category will not be applied to spreadsheet assignments where only mathematical problem solving is required.]
  • Is the assignment carefully prepared with appropriate attention to grammar, spelling and style in written portions and to formatting of mathematical content? Written and mathematical content are stylistically correct, appropriately formatted and proofread; content is correctly formatted and proofread but with minor technical or stylistic errors; there are significant errors in presentation; there are serious deficiencies in presentation or assignment not done.
