The healthcare industry and consumer advocacy groups are at odds over the sharing of a patient’s med
Question: The healthcare industry and consumer advocacy groups are at odds over the sharing of a patient’s medical records without the patient’s consent. The health care industry believes that no consent should be necessary to openly share data among doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, and insurance companies. A phone survey by the Gallup Organization asked respondents if they objected to a variety of different types of companies or institutions (Laura Landro, “Medical –Privacy Rules Leave Consumers’ Data vulnerable,” The Wall Street Journal, June 6, 2002, D3). The following table contains a partial listing of the results:
Organization | |||
Object to sharing? | Insurance companies | Pharmacies | Medical Researchers |
Yes | 820 | 590 | 670 |
No | 180 | 410 | 330 |
? Determine whether there is a difference in the proportion of people who object to their medical records being shared with the three organization listed in the table (use alpha=0.05)
