Question: An experiment has been done to investigate the effect of alcohol on the reaction time of adult males. Reaction time was measured in a simulated driver’s seat from the moment a picture of a stop sign appeared until the subject applied force to a brake. Forty subjects were selected and randomly assigned to one of four treatment groups: group 1, placebo; group 2, .5 ounce of alcohol; group 3, 1.0 ounce; group 4, 2.0 ounces. Testing was conducted 30 minutes after alcohol ingestion. Here are the data:
| Reaction Time in Seconds | |||
| 0.0 Oz. | 0.5 Oz. | 1.0 Oz. | 2.0 Oz. |
| 0.8 | 1.1 | 1.5 | 2.0 |
| 1.2 | 1.5 | 1.3 | 1.8 |
| 0.7 | 0.9 | 1.2 | 1.7 |
| 0.9 | 1.6 | 1.4 | 1.5 |
| 1.1 | 1.4 | 1.6 | 1.8 |
| 1.5 | 1.3 | 0.9 | 1.7 |
| 0.6 | 1.4 | 1.1 | 1.6 |
| 0.8 | 0.9 | 1.8 | 1.7 |
| 1.0 | 1.1 | 1.5 | 1.5 |
| 1.1 | 1.2 | 1.4 | 2.1 |
Determine whether there were group differences and if there were, use the LSD and HSD tests to make all pairwise comparisons.
