Quantitative Research Methods
You are part of a team who have collected the data found in the accompanying data set. You have been asked to a) raise reasonable hypotheses regarding the data set and then b) test these and c) provide appropriate conclusions. You will have to write sections of the final report.
The data set includes the data of 235 students reporting depression symptoms.
You have to decide what hypotheses and analyses you think are appropriate GIVEN THE DATA. You can decide if you want to include all the participants or subsets (e.g., only female, only individuals with IQ between 85-115 etc.), transform or recode any variables and whether to address all variables or not. You can interpret any vague information as you wish but please justify any decisions and/or assumptions.
The assignment is a 2000 words report in APA style. You are expected to write:
A very BRIEF introduction outlining the rationale for your hypotheses.
A methods section detailing which analyses were chosen to address your hypotheses along with appropriate justification
A clear results section
A discussion of the appropriate interpretation and conclusions of your results.
The clearer, more sensible and better structured your report, the better the mark. If you report very simple analyses and results, the mark will not be high. If you report more complicated analyses providing a better explanation of the data, your mark will likely be higher. If you just include nonsense in your results, the mark will be low. It is important that you make the most of the data you have, giving the best explanation you can provide.
