Under the "Arrest Data Analysis Tool" tab, please select "National Estimates". Now, you should see "trend graph by sex", "trend graph by table", "trend graph by race", etc. Explore those options and select one type of historical data which you feel is the most interesting (such as the number of fraud arrest per year). It should allow you download the data into excel file.
Suppose that your task is to evaluate the national crime data to provide supporting evidence for a testimony planned in the Congress. You first have to download the data and produce the descriptive statistics in excel (mean, deviation, covariance, correlation coefficients, etc). You also should be able to produce bar charts/ frequency distribution etc, wherever you feel the information is useful for you to support an argument or several arguments.
I left the topic and type of data wide open for you to choose on purpose so that you may choose the subject and data which fits your interest.
