Introduction

The purpose of this paper is to use statistical tools, such as normality tests and confidence intervals, in order to analyze measures of response of salt and sugar, in the context of a wider investigation of whether excessive sodium intake adversely affects blood pressure

An experiment was set up to measure the level of responsiveness of the subjects in the sample to the taste of salt and sugar, and to attempt to relate this responsiveness to the blood pressure level.

Methods

For the purpose of this paper, a sample of 100 infants was used. This sample came included in the dataset INFANTBP.DAT. The procedure of obtaining the data was to giving to each of the 100 infants a drop of a saline solution of different concentration during three days. The salt concentration was changed over ten consecutive periods. The response variable for this experiment was the vigor the infants sucked after the stimuli. Specifically, the recorded response variable was the mean number of sucks per burst of sucking.
