Statistics Project

Introduction

The objective of this paper is to analyze the significance of the relationship between the well being of an individual and several variables that may be related to it. In particular, we are interested in addressing whether or not certain social variables measuring attitudes towards friendship and relationships, and other variables measuring certain opinions about the economics and politics, have an effect in the well being of an individual.

The data used for this analysis corresponds to a subset of the variables taken from the World Values Survey. The dataset contains mostly categorical/ordinal variables, which means that an array nominal/ordinal association measures will be used (Including Chi-Square –when they apply- Cramer’s V, Gamma, etc).

Methods

The dataset used for this analysis is taken from the World Values Survey (2000). This survey includes a survey questionnaire assessing several variables, including demographic, political, economical, religious and sociocultural data.

A combination of descriptive statistics and the use of various measures of association will be the main instruments of analysis.

The statistical software SPSS will be used, due to the well organized and easily interpretable results it delivers.

The significance level is set at \(\alpha =0.05\), so a p-value will be said to be significant if p < 0.05.

Research Hypotheses and Results :

  • Is the variable Happiness significantly related with the variable Family Important?

This question is interesting because it allows investigating to what degree family is an important factor in the wellbeing of an individual.
