Question 1: Description of the study and data file

A study was conducted to explore the nature and prevalence of peer victimisation and bullying in adolescence. A small sample of adolescents in a secondary school in Gloucestershire were invited to complete a questionnaire containing questions about whether they had bullied others (bullying) and about the extent to which they had been bullied (victimization) in the past 2 months. The sample consisted of 29 respondents ( \(55 \%\) female, \(45 \%\) male).

Task

  1. We are interested in whether there is a difference in the physical fitness of adolescents who bully others compared to adolescents who do not bully others. Your task is to carry out an analysis to investigate this.

More specifically, you are required to:

  1. Write a paragraph which details the aims of the study (research question) and the study design (include information about participant groups, basic procedural information, independent and dependent variables and their measurement level). Underneath your paragraph, list each null and experimental hypothesis. (3 marks)
  2. Conduct relevant exploratory analyses of the data to determine whether the conditions for the planned analysis are met and report your conclusions with reasons. (3 marks)
  3. Analyse the data in SPSS using the appropriate statistical test. Report and interpret the results from your analysis in APA style. Remember to justify your choice of test, based on your exploratory data analysis. Include a relevant table to illustrate your results. (5 marks)
