Data Analysis Project Guidelines

You are asked to choose a topic that involves the use of statistics on sustainability and analyse the data using the statistical tools / methods covered in our class. The project can be done in a group if you wish (up to three students in a group) or individually. You will present your work on Week 10 (August 9) in the class.

The expected structure of the project is as follows:

  1. Topic Selection: Explain why you decided to choose this topic and how it relates to sustainability issues.
  2. Research question(s): What particular aspect(s) of your general topic are you trying to address. This should involve a clear-cut question and a hypothesis to test.
  3. Literature Review: Most likely, someone else did some work on your topic before.
  4. Data and Methods: Explain what data you are using, what the data definitions are and which methods you will use to answer your research question(s). Here, you are not presenting any results yet; just discuss the data (and possible measurement problems and shortcomings in data collection) and the methods you will use.
