Sample Maximum Calculator

The sample maximum is a statistics that can be constructed from a sample. The sample max corresponds to the largest value of among all numbers in the sample.

The maximum is usually reported as a part of a whole set of descriptive statistics, including the minimum, the quartiles, the median, the mean and standard deviation.

Examples of the sample max

Let us consider, for example the following data: 3, 2, 1, 3, 3, 8, 3, 4, 5, 11, 6, 7, 7, 7, 8.

The sample maximum corresponds to the largest value among all values in the sample. In this case, the sample max is 11.

Is the Sample Max unique?

Not really. Suppose we have the sample 3, 2, 1, 3, 3, 8, 3, 4, 5, 11, 6, 7, 7, 7, 8, 11.

In this case the sample maximum is 11, but the value 11 appears twice in the sample. No problem. The maximum is still 11. It does not have to be unique.
