Chi-Square Analysis

The purpose of this discussions is to conduct a Chi-Square test in order to assess the significance of the relationship between the variables Q6a ( Do you use the Internet at least occasionally? ) and Q6b ( Do you send or receive e-mail at least occasionally? ).

The following null and alternative hypotheses need to be tested:

Ho: Using the Internet at least occasionally and send or receive e-mail at least occasionally are not significantly related

Ha: Using the Internet at least occasionally and sending or receiving e-mail at least occasionally are significantly related

Both variables Q6a (1 = Yes, 2 = No, 8 = Don’t know, 9 = Refused) and Q6b (1 = Yes, 2 = No, 8 = Don’t know, 9 = Refused) are measured at the nominal level, and this indicates that the first assumption of the appropriate level of measurement of the variables is met. The values "8" and "9" will considered as missing, and they will be tagged as missing in the SPSS variable view pane.
