Question: A clinical psychologist interested in alcohol abuse and a rural sociologist team up to conduct a field study of alcohol consumption in country-and-western bars. They are both interested in whether music tempo in these establishments increases drinking rate. In the bar being studied, each researcher selects four persons at random to observe during the playing of different country songs. A tape recorder is used unobtrusively to record songs and data. At 30-second intervals during each song, observations are taken. At the time of observation, each of the investigators taps his table if the targets have sipped a drink during the observation interval. The data were tabulated over 45 minutes, and music tempos were divided into three beats-per –minute (bpm) ranges. For below 60 bpm, there were 66 sips; for 60 to 84 bpm, 55 sips; and for 85 bpm and above, 37 sips. Determine whether the consumption rate is the same for the different tempo categories.
