Question: One issue in a recent election is how to deal with a sluggish economy. Should the government cut spending, raise taxes, inflate the economy, or do none of these? And like most issues, politicians need to know which parts of the electorate support these options. A random sample of 1000 people was asked which option they support and their political affiliations. The results are summarized below. Do these results allow us to conclude that political affiliation affects support for the economic options? IOW, are political affiliation and economic option independent variables? Use sigma 0.05 as the significance level.
| Economic Options | Democrats | Republicans | Independent |
| Cut Spending | 101 | 282 | 61 |
| Raise Taxes | 38 | 67 | 25 |
| Inflate Economy | 131 | 88 | 31 |
| Let deficit Increase | 61 | 90 | 25 |
