Question: Scientists in Australia have hypothesized that boys who repeat a grade in elementary school are shorter, on average, than those who have never repeated a grade. As such, researchers collected data on the heights of both groups (Archives of Disease in Childhood, Apr. 2000). All height measurements were recorded in inches. A summary of the results is shown in the following table. Test the scientists’ claim at the 5% level of significance. Be sure to: 1) write out the null and alternative and clearly label the claim, \(2\) ) perform the test (via any method we discussed in class) and show your work (indicate the p-value if using the p-value method), 3) state the decision rule, and 4) write a conclusion in the context of the claim. Each of these subparts is 5 points each.
