Mountain-Plains Bank has two branches - one in Boulder, Colorado and one in Iowa City, Iowa. The CEO

Question: Mountain-Plains Bank has two branches – one in Boulder, Colorado and one in Iowa City, Iowa. The CEO of Mountain-Plains is concerned that the ‘Plains’ part (the branch in Iowa City) is not nearly as satisfied as the ‘Mountains’ part (the branch in Boulder). To explore this concern, you are asked to compare the two groups on job satisfaction. You gather a random sample of 20 employees from each branch (labeled “CO Branch” and “IA Branch”) and have them complete a job satisfaction survey. Scores on the job satisfaction survey range from 1-10, where 1=very low job satisfaction (i.e., dissatisfaction) and 10=very high job satisfaction.

The individual job satisfaction scores for your two samples of 20 are given below (also provided in the Exam 1 Data Excel Sheet). Using this data, test the CEO’s hypothesis that the two branches differ on job satisfaction. (10 pts).

a) Report n, mean, and s.d. for each group. (2 pts.)

b) What are your null and alternative hypotheses? What type of significance test is required to test your hypotheses? (2 pts.)

c) What is your calculated test statistic? (2 pts.)

d) What is the p-value associated with your test statistic? Given an α of .05, is your test statistic statistically significant? How would you interpret these results (make sure to reference to your hypotheses AND to state a conclusion for the CEO). (4 pts.)
