Question: Trauma victims frequently suffer from intrusive memories and images of the traumatic event. We are interested in the effectiveness of a new therapeutic technique that uses structured recall of the traumatic event in conjunction with a cognitive restructuring of the experience. We have seven trauma patients record their intrusive thoughts for a 1-week period before receiving the therapy (0 months), after 2 months of therapy (2months), at termination (4 months), and again 2 months after completing therapy ( 6 months). Here are the data:
Patient # 0 months 2 months 4 months 6 months
| 1 | 14 | 10 | 9 | 10 |
| 2 | 10 | 8 | 5 | 6 |
| 3 | 8 | 7 | 5 | 2 |
| 4 | 16 | 12 | 8 | 10 |
| 5 | 12 | 11 | 10 | 9 |
| 6 | 9 | 8 | 5 | 5 |
| 7 | 8 | 7 | 7 | 7 |
Did the new therapy significantly affect intrusive memories in these patients?
