[Solution] An investigator in child development research is studying the development of object permanence - the understanding that an object still exists
Question: An investigator in child development research is studying the development of object permanence – the understanding that an object still exists even if it is out of sight. She tests three groups of infants – ten 9-month-olds, ten 12-month-onld, and 10 15-month-olds. She presents each of the 30 infants with 10 trials, On each trial, a toy is first shown to the child and then covered with a piece of cloth. The infant demonstrates object permanence if he or she looks for the object or shows signs of distress when it’s covered. Each infant is given a score of the number of trials (out of 10) on which he or she shows object permanence. Here are the scores:
9 Months |
12 Months | 15 Months |
| 8 | 10 | 10 |
| 3 | 5 | 8 |
| 4 | 6 | 9 |
| 6 | 7 | 9 |
| 5 | 6 | 8 |
| 4 | 5 | 7 |
| 9 | 10 | 9 |
| 2 | 3 | 6 |
| 0 | 3 | 6 |
| 1 | 3 | 8 |
Determine whether there were group differences in object permanence, and do all pairwise comparisons with the LSD and your F significant.
