Question: Case Study Three
Crimes in Tiffin, Ohio (1999-2006)
When your sample size is smaller, creating a Level of Confidence changes slightly as you are now to use the student t-distribution for a sample size less than 30.
This week, we are to use the data for Tiffin, Ohio, from the years 1999-2006. You can obtain this information from the course website, from http://www.city-data.com/city/Tiffin-Ohio.html or from another source, if you prefer. We will be constructing confidence intervals using this information.
Your Assignment – data collection
In this assignment, you are to construct the student t-distribution at the 0.05 significance level for the following crimes: rapes, robberies, assaults, burglaries, thefts, auto thefts and arson.
In doing your calculations, you are to neatly list the crimes with the data and show all applicable calculations in the construction of the 0.05 significance level. While Excel is the easiest method to do the organization and calculation of the values, you can also do them by hand as long as the work is neatly presented.
Then, once you have computed the 0.05 significance level for the data, obtain the FBI’s per capita rates for the entire United States for 2008 and compare that value with the intervals you calculated. Interpret the results.
Your Assignment – reporting your findings
When all calculations and comparisons from the previous section are complete, you are to report your findings in a three-paragraph summary. This summary should not detail your method of calculations, rather it should report and interpret your calculations and what they mean.
