Question: Your Assignment – data collection

For this assignment, you are to randomly select 30 of the states. You are to then construct a 95% confidence interval for the "murder rate and non-negligent manslaughter" per capita using the 30 states you chose.

(This would be the value for the "rate per 100,000 inhabitants" located on the table, one for each state)

In doing your calculations, you are to neatly list all the states you chose with the appropriate corresponding per capita murder rate and show all applicable calculations in the construction of the 95% confidence interval. While Excel is the easiest method to do the organization and calculation of the values, you can also do them by hand as long as the work is neatly presented.

Then, once you have computed the 95% confidence interval for the data, find the FBI’s per capita murder rate for the entire United States for 2008. Compare that value with the 95% confidence interval you calculated and determine if it falls in the interval.
