Statistics Project

Important: the data you use must have at least 10 observations per group.

As for the paper itself, all I want is the following:

  1. Describe your data
    1. What do these numbers represent, crimes? Prisoners on death row? Etc.
    2. Where did you get the data from? Whether you obtained this data on line or from an agency, give the source
  2. Provide descriptive statistics of the data, as appropriate to the level of your data. In other words, if your data is interval or ratio, provide me with mean, median, mode and standard deviation. If the data is nominal, give me a frequency distribution and percentages.
  3. Conduct a statistical test to make some type of comparison. Your data has to compare at least two groups on something. You can be creative in creating groups. In the past, for example, students have gotten different types of criminal justice statistics on different states. They then created geographic categories, e.g., north and south, east and west, etc. and did an analysis. People have gotten data of some type that gives numbers across different years and collapsed them into decades. You need at least 10 observations per group.
  4. You DO NOT have to write out the 5-step process. Simply describe what you are comparing. If you created groups like I describe above, tell me how you did that. Then describe your statistical test results.
    1. What test did you use?
    2. Why did you choose that test?
    3. What were the results of the test? (Include the SPSS output)
    4. What conclusions can you make based on the results?
