Statistics Project
- Become familiar with the codebook and the variables included in the provided dataset (attached in Folder "Codebook and BRFSS Data Set).
- You will be analyzing data from 2 diverse States: Georgia and California
- After reviewing the codebook to understand the data collected, come up with ONE research question that interests you.
- You will compare variables of interest BETWEEN the 2 states
- Review the literature (http://www.cdc.gov/hrqol/publications_date.htm is a possible resource) for relevant studies to collect background information on the issue or topic selected.
- Download the SPSS file containing the data.
- Analyze the variables of interest to determine the answers to the research questions and in order to evaluate the hypothesis.
- Write a paper (8-10 pages) that introduces the issue considered, the research questions, describes the literature reviewed, and summarizes the analytical findings.
o Paper must include the following sections (make sure you use APA headings):
- Introduction/Background:
- General description of the BRFSS data set (https://www.cdc.gov/brfss)
- General description of the problem of interest. Include your research questions at the end of this section
- Methods: Explain the statistical test you use and explain the independent and dependent variables (i.e. what type are they, etc.). Why did you pick those?
- Results
- Present your data in tables and/or graphs and in the body of your paper
- Discussion
- Discuss the implications of your analysis, and strengths and limitations
- Conclusion
This is a brief paragraph that summarized the problem of interest, your results, and directions for future research
Important:
• You will NOT have to run 3 different statistical tests
• You will now run the appropriate statistical test based upon your research question and the type of independent and dependent variables.
