Scenario Dr. Thera Rec studies recreation therapy in summer camps. She has collected data from 71 adults

Scenario

Dr. Thera Rec studies recreation therapy in summer camps. She has collected data from 71 adults with disabilities. The attached data file contains the following variables.

ID: a unique identification code for each individual

disability: type of disability

camp: summer camp group (attended camp or waitlist control)

motor: motor function as measured using a standardized scale (scores from 0 to 100)

depres: depression, a total score from 10 to 50 from 10 items, where higher scores indicate more depression

Dr. Rec would like you to screen all variables, except the ID variable, for notable features and summarize them using appropriate descriptive statistics and plain language interpretations.

Be sure to address the following questions using the information in the scenario and the data file provided.

  1. Name the Stevens’ scale of measurement (nominal, ordinal, interval, ratio) for each variable and explain why it was most appropriate for that variable.
  2. For each variable state which type(s) of graph would be appropriate, and include at least one appropriate graph for each variable.
  3. Select appropriate descriptive statistics for each variable. Be sure to explain which descriptive statistics you chose and why they were most appropriate for each variable.
  4. Produce at least one appropriate descriptive statistic for each variable, and include your SPSS output in your report.
  5. For each variable write a plain language interpretation for one descriptive statistic.
  6. Briefly explain any issues with any of the variables, such as missing data, invalid values, outlier(s), positively or negatively skewed distributions, or restricted range (inadequate variability).
