Statistics Project

The report should consist of the following sections:

  1. Introduction
What problems are being looked at in the study? What is the importance of the study?
  2. Descriptive Statistics:
What are the features of the variables being considered in the study? Are there any interesting features? Do some of the variables seem to be related? Is th a good way to visually display the distribution of some of the important variables?
  3. Selection of the Models and Type of Analysis Employed
Why did you choose to use the methods that you did? How did you arrive at the final model? What criteria did you use? Were there other models that you considered?
  4. Diagnostics
Did you examine the appropriateness of your model as far as meeting the required assumptions? What did you find?
  5. Summary of Findings

This is probably the most important Section. What conclusions can be drawn from the analysis in terms of the original questions posed in the study? Give clear recommendation to the political scientist using statistical findings to support your recommendations.

- Descriptive statistics and relevant graphs/charts/figures

- Strategies for creating the best possible model

- Regression (residual) diagnostics (assessing the assumptions)

- Collinearity diagnosis.

- Identification of outliers

Please note that this are just a subset of the concepts that you will need to consider. I just want to make sure that you do not forget these important, recent ideas.

For example, you should consider such ideas as:

- What criteria you will use to include a variable in your model?

- What descriptive statistics/graphs/figures will you produce?

- What additional statistics will you report (confidence intervals, test statistic results, results of diagnostics...)

- What criteria will you use to assess if interaction terms are necessary in your model?

- What criteria will you use to assess outliers?

- What criteria will you use to select the best model?

- Will you be able to tell if the model is reliable?
