Introduction

The main objective of this report is to construct a simple linear regression model to predict father’s education level (dependent variable) when the mother’s education level (independent variable) is known. For the purpose of analysis, the SPSS dataset gss.sav will be used. This dataset contains a total of 47 variables, with a sample size of N = 1419. For this specific analysis only two variables will be considered:

• PAEDUC : Father’s education level (measured at the ratio level)
• M AEDUC : Mather’s education level (measured at the ratio level)

The variable Maeduc will be the independent variable (or predictor) and the variable Paeduc will the dependent (or response) variable. Mathematically speaking, the following model needs to be estimated:
