33. For question 33 you will use the accompanied survey (See Word Document -- Survey Mentor Problem 33 ) and excel data sheet ( Problem 33 PartII) to generate a data file in SPSS by creating the appropriate variables, cutting and pasting the data from excel into SPSS, and run the appropriate analysis.

The survey was conducted from a random sample of 20 new employees new to this well known international business corporation which boast of 50 new employees each year. Each new employee is given a mentor to assist them in their job. The mentor is asked to meet regularly with the new employee and help them transition to the foreign location and working in a new firm. The excel sheets provides a legend to explain the data. The district manager wants to know if the mentor program is effective. Your report will help provide answers to that question.

Begin your analysis by providing your manager with appropriate descriptive statistics for the data. Your analysis should contain a pie chart, bar graph, histogram, crosstabs, scatter plot and frequency table which should help your manager better understand the answer to his question as to whether the mentor program is effective and the demographics of the people who are new to the firm and who participated in this study. Inform the manager about the results of the survey within your descriptive statistics. Tables should be in APA format. Provide a brief (one sentence) explanation of what the chart or graph tells you about the new employees and the helpfulness of the mentor.

The manager particularly wants to know if the amount of support (question #4) the new employee felt from the mentor significantly impacts the perceived years of work for the company. Conduct the appropriate statistics test to answer that question. Provide a null and alternative hypothesis. Ensure that the data is normally distributed in order to justify using a parametric test for the evaluation. Write up a formal commentary of the results of your statistical analysis (similar to the phrasing found in the Cronk textbook). Comment on the SPSS printout describing as much as you know about the final print out. For example what does the F and t scores represent?

Next conduct another statistical test to determine if how often the new employee meets with the mentor (from survey question # 1) impacts the perceived years of work with the company. Is there a relationship between how often they meet and perceived longevity working for the company?

Finally, determine if there is any correlation between how well the mentor communicates with the new employee (Question 3) with how comfortable the new employee is on the job (Question 7). Write up a formal commentary of the results of your test (similar to the phrasing found in the Cronk textbook). Draw some concluding remarks about the effectiveness of the mentor program for new employees. Will you recommend that the mentor program continues? Why?

Mary wishes to assess whether vitamin C is effective in the treatment of colds. To evaluate her hypothesis she decides to conduct a 2-year experimental study. She obtains 30 volunteers from an undergraduate class to participate. She randomly assigns an equal number of students to three groups: placebo (group 1), low doses of vitamin C (group 2), and high doses of vitamin C (group 3). In the first and second year of the study, students in all three groups are monitored to assess the number of days that they have cold symptoms. During the first year students do not take any pills. In the second year of the study, students take pills that contain one of the following: no active ingredients (group 1), low doses of vitamin c (group 2), or high doses of vitamin c (group 3). An excel data file ( excel for prob 34 Vitamins : Attached ) includes 30 cases you should use to analyze the impact of vitamin C.

Conduct the appropriate statistical test to see if there are any differences between the groups and determine if vitamin C is effective in the treatment of colds. Write up a formal commentary of the results of your test (similar to the phrasing found in the Cronk textbook).

35. After reviewing the literature on depression and childbirth Moe claims that a third of the women become less depressed, a third become more depressed, and a third neither become more nor less depressed after delivering a child. Do the appropriate statistical analysis on this hypothesis based on a random sample of 60 women found in the excel file for problem 35 ( Final Exam Part II prob 35 childbirth : Attached ). Based on this sample, is Moe correct in his assertion? Write up a formal commentary of the results of your test (similar to the phrasing found in the Cronk textbook).
