Quantitative Research Methods Assessment 2
Since your last assignment you have advanced in your career and are now an independent consultant. You have recently taken on a project for a start-up company developing gaming apps to improve cognition in the elderly. In order to better understand your targeted audience, you have been given the pilot version of an app for a sample of middle-aged and elderly adult volunteers. For this assignment only, assume the data has been vetted for data quality and assumptions of normality.
The file contains the following:
1. Family History of dementia (0=No; 1=Yes)
2. Achieved Criterion on a learning task (0=Fail; 1= Pass)
3. Working Memory Performance
4. Attention Performance
5. Vocabulary Performance
[Note, higher scores indicate better performance]
6. Stress [Note, higher scores indicate greater stress levels]
7. Sociability [Note, higher scores indicate greater sociability levels]
8. Reported Enjoyment [Note, higher scores indicate greater enjoyment levels]
You have been asked to compile a report that will answer the following developers’ queries. For each query, please provide four, clearly marked, separate sections:
- A brief description of the analysis process you have decided to implement (similar to what can be found in the methods section of a research paper).
- A summary of the analyses and findings as would be found in the results section of a research paper (in APA style). In some cases, follow-up analyses may be appropriate. If so, it is up to you to choose which follow-up analyses, but please provide a brief rationale justifying your choice (1-2 sentences).
- Suitable descriptive statistics to enable the reader to understand the findings and conclusions [you will be assessed on accuracy but also clarity so please ensure these are communicated clearly to the reader, be it in text, table or graph format].
- A conclusion communicating to your reader how the analysis has addressed the query with possible implications/recommendations.
The queries are:
- Is there a difference in cognitive abilities (as measured by working memory, attention and vocabulary scores) and does it matter whether or not the individual has a history of dementia in their family? Provide the full analysis.
- Is there an association between family history and whether the subject has passed criterion in the learning task?
- Is there an association between level of enjoyment and overall cognitive performance (as measured by the total score of working memory, attention and vocabulary)?
- Do stress levels and sociability contribute to overall cognitive performance?
As part of your analyses and findings, provide a table with all relevant data that would allow your colleagues to assess the contribution of sociability and stress to overall cognitive performance.
In addition to the four sections above please also:
4e. Write the raw score and standardized equations (model) for the analysis
4f. Based on this model, how much overall cognitive performance would be anticipated from an individual with:
Sociability = 6 Stress = 5
Deliverable: Word Document
