PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Commercial Environments Corporation has been contracted to landscape the exterior of the corporate headquarters of the Universal Life Insurance Company. Activities they now foresee include gathering the subcontractors; contouring the land; planting grass, trees, and hedges; digging and filling a lake; and laying ground cover. The chart below lists the activities and identifies which, if any, precede each one. Times are in days.

- In the table above, fill in the EXP (Expected duration) column by averaging the predictions according to the most common weighting system. YOU MAY USE PROJECT MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE.
- Draw a diagram, using common PERT/CPM symbols or your own, to show the flow of activities above. Put on that diagram the earliest and latest start times for each of the non critical path activities . You may use project management software but this should be easily doable by hand.
- Shade the critical path on your diagram and fill in the hypothetical standard deviation and variance values for each of the critical path activities.
- What is the expected completion time for this project?
- What is the estimated completion time that CEC could give to Universal and be 99% certain of on-time completion.
Solution: Using POM we get the following results:
The network diagram is shown below:
The critical path is A – C – E – G – I
The expected completion time is 33 and the standard deviation is 3.
In order to make sure with 99% confidence that the project will be finished, we need
\[T=33+3\times 2.33=39.979\text{ days}\]Deliverable: Word Document
