IMMIGRATION PROJECT: DIRECTIONS

The object of this project is focused in finding out the type of variables that could affect and influence the immigration process in Spain. The countries selected are, Algeria, Bulgary, Bolivia, Colombia, China, Ecuador, Morocco, Senegal, Peru, Romania, for the period between 1997-2005.

The data (that I have attached), has been obtained from different sources, all of

them indicated in the table below. For some years and countries I haven't been

able to find any data at all, that is why there is a blank space.

Before establishing the econometric model, I would like to calculate the following

steps as it follows:

1) The average and the deviation

2) Specification of the econometric model

The variables selected that could affect the immigration process, are the following:

1) IM Flujo de Inmigrantes = Flow of immigrants

2) PIB (producto interior bruto) = Gross Domestic Product (GDP)

3) PIB pc Esp (Producto interior bruto per capita de Espana) = Gross Domestic

Product in Spain.

4) PIBpc = Gross Domestic Produc of the selected country (Le. , Senegal, China

5) cP1B (Tasa de crecimiento del PIB) = Growth ratio of GDP

6) COM (Comercio) = Trade (this variable is obtained adding the exports and the

7) PA (% Poblacion 15-64 ) = % Population between 15-64 years old divided by

total population.

8) IE (InversiOn extranjera) = Foreign Investment

9) PO (Pobreza) = Poverty

10) GPE (Gasto Publico en Educaci6n) = Public expenditure on Education
