Assignment Guidelines
RM2 Assignment 2 is research report. This will involve analysing data that we have collected in the practical classes, and then writing up the study using the standard format of a psychology research report. There is a choice of two studies, each with its own data set to analyse; choose one of these two studies for your research report. Both of these studies use experimental methods to replicate and extend previous research, and are designed to test theories. Your report should reflect this.
STUDY C
The main phenomenon being examined:
In a typical anchoring study, participants' judgments for a quantity appear to be 'pulled towards' a value that has previously been suggested to the participant. E.g., After asking: "Is a London bus longer or shorter than \(6 \mathrm{~m}\) \((18 \mathrm{~m})\) ?" estimates of the actual length will usually be higher when the original anchor ('18' vs. ' 6 ') is higher. The phenomenon has been replicated many times, and in many different settings; but why does this occur?
The maximum length for the main text of the research report (Introduction + Method + Results + Discussion) is 3000 words. The word count includes headings and sub-headings and the titles for figures and tables. Avoid using footnotes, and note that footnotes are included in the word count. The contents of figures and tables are NOT included in this word count. (Tables and figures, if included, should be placed at an appropriate place within the main text of the report; and not at the end of the report as is sometimes seen in 'draft' work).
The maximum length for the Abstract is 150 words.
The Title Page, Abstract and the References section are NOT included in the word count.
All word-counts above are strict maxima; there will be a progressive penalty for assignments that exceed these word-counts. There is no minimum number of words for this assignment.
Produce your research report as a Word document. Use 1.5 line spacing (or more if you prefer) throughout your report; though single-spacing may be used for tables, and for the titles of tables or figures, if preferred.
Deliverable: Word Document
