Question: Researchers have hypothesized that the proverbial rose-colored glasses might indeed help lessen depression caused by light deprivation. A random sample of 39 people suffering light deprivation depression were given a depression inventory exam, and it was found that on the scale their average measure was 27 with standard deviation 3.3. Another random sample of 45 people suffering light deprivation depression wore rose-tinted glasses. They were subjected to the same light deprivation conditions as the other sample. On the depression inventory exam their mean scale reading was 24 with standard deviation 3.6. Test the claim that the rose-colored glasses reduce the reading on the depression inventory exam. Use a 5% level of significance.
