The Prescott Rural Electric Company operates a nuclear power plant on the Prescott River, just south

Question: The Prescott Rural Electric Company operates a nuclear power plant on the Prescott River, just south of town. At this plant the Coop uses river water to cool the heat exchangers. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has a rule that power plants can use river water to cool heat exchangers so long as the discharged water is on average no more than 140 degrees. To determine if the Coop’s discharged water is in compliance the EPA took 85 different water samples over a three week period. They found that the mean was 143.25 with a standard deviation of 4.7 degrees. At the .05 level of significance write the null and research hypotheses and find out if the Coop’s discharged water is in compliance with EPA rules.
