Question: Suppose that our institution is concerned about the delay in transferring older patients to long-term care after hospitalization. In particular, we are concerned that the delay in transfer from Memorial Hospital is longer than the delay in discharge from Hill Street Hospital. To evaluate our concerns, we randomly selected 15 recent discharges from each hospital and measured, in days, the length of delay in transferring each to a source of long term care. The results of the two samples are as follows: Memorial: 15, 13, 16, 19, 10, 22, 23, 19, 18, 17, 15, 19, 16, 12, 8 Hill Street: 10, 13, 16, 18, 12, 9, 18, 15, 19, 11, 13, 9, 15, 18, 20 If x = 0.05, use these data to evaluate the difference in the delay in transfer from the two hospitals.
