Question: It's harvest time at the D hot pepper patch! Each summer, D has to brews up three cauldrons of his famous hot pepper sauces. Traditionally, his mixes come in three potencies: VERY HOT [VH], COLOSSALLY HOT [CH] and SUPER HUU-MONGUS-LY HOT [SHH]. Typically, D wishes to maximize the total fieriness of the harvest brew. This is measured by the number of "wa-wa" yelps per sip, as he is mixing up the various batches in gallon bottles. The latest yelp reading is as follows:
A gallon of Very Hot requires 0.40 of a quart of red chili pepper pulp and 0.25 of a quart of jalapeño pepper pulp. The remaining liquid is made up with mysterious quantities of vinegar, tomato juice and paste, garlic and paste, and over-the-top cheap white wine which are not limited in availability.
A gallon of Colossally Hot requires 0.80 of a quart of red chili peppers and 0.65 of a quart of jalapeño peppers, plus a mix of the other, unlimited, gloop.
And a gallon of Super Huumongously Hot requires 1.2 quarts of red chili peppers and 0.85 of a quart of jalapeño peppers, plus the other unlimited stuff.
Then there are the standing orders. Grandma wants 2 gallons of the Very Hot, Brother-in-Law Bob wants 1 gallon of the Super Huumongously Hot, and beer-buddy Tom wants 2 gallons of the Colossally Hot.
Formulate the objective function and constraints that will maximize the firey potential of this year's harvest.
