Question: A study is designed to test whether or not the We-Help Learning Center actually reduces student’s absences from public school. A group of five students were randomly selected and the number of absences they had for one month was recorded. Then over the next month they studied with We-Help Learning Center and then over the following month the number of absences from school was recorded. The results are listed below:
| Name | Number of absences before | Number of absences after |
| Arthur | 15 | 13 |
| Barry | 19 | 14 |
| Clarice | 18 | 7 |
| Drew | 17 | 10 |
| Ellen | 14 | 20 |
At the .01 significance level, test the claim of a zero difference between the number of absences before and after studying with We-Help Learning Center.
H0: \({{\mu }_{d}}=0\)
H1: \({{\mu }_{d}}\ne 0\)
\(\alpha \) = 0. 01
Test Statistic -1.3319
P-value: 0.2537
Decision on H0: Fail to Reject Ho
Interpretation: We don't have enough evidence to reject the claim the mean difference is zero
Bonus: worth 2 points, both answers have to be correct, no partial credit will be given: For the data in question 6, give d and s d : (Round to one decimal place)
d : -3.8 s d : 6.38
