Question: I recently took up competitive rock-paper-scissors [http://www.usarps.com] and have traveled to 10 tournaments. My wife, who is very supportive, tries to come along and cheer for me on these trips as her job and other commitments permit. We're wondering whether it is worth all the effort she puts into cheering for me. That is, whether her cheering actually has any effect on my performance. Below are the data from the 10 tournaments including my placing in the tournament (i.e., 1st, 2nd, 23rd, etc.) and whether she was able to make that tournament.
What is the relationship (if any) between my wife's presence and my performance?
| Wife present? | No | No | No | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | yes |
| Placing | 6 | 8 | 10 | 15 | 8 | 10 | 12 | 16 | 20 | 25 |
