Question: Occupations of fathers and sons. An economist was interested in knowing whether sons have a tendency to choose the same occupation as their fathers. To investigate this question, 500 males were polled, and each was questioned concerning his occupation and the occupation of his father. A summary of the numbers of father- son pairs falling into each occupational category (saved in the FATHSON file) is shown in the table at the bottom of the page.
