Question: In Alabama all students between the 3rd and 10th grade take the Alabama Comprehensive Achievement Test or FCAT. Frank Ford, the Stanford County School Superintendent is always looking for an " I got You " when it comes to the state board of education. Recently the state board announced that the three tests that make up the FCAT (reading, math and science) could be completed in less than 7 hours. Old Frank, always looking for an example to be made, decided to put the state board to the test.

Frank pulled a sample of 150 FCATs from last year to find out just how long it took students who took all three tests to complete them. He found that the average for the random sample was 7.45 hours with a standard deviation of 7.5 minutes.
