u09a1 F Statistic
In this assignment, you will calculate an F test, or ANOVA, and provide interpretations for it using the terminology you have learned in this course. Specifically, you will be returning to the IQ variable in the last unit. In that unit, you tested the differences in the group means (means of males and females) on their IQ scores. You will now expand the number of groups to three using the ENGL variable, and subsequently require the use of an ANOVA. You will also be examining if the three independent groups of participants (college prep, general, and remedial) obtained significantly different scores on the dependent variable (IQ obtained from a group administered IQ test) in our data set. Additionally, you will examine the three test assumptions. In preparation for this seventh SPSS assignment, complete both of the following activities.
Note: The Copy Object function was not repeated here, but can be accessed in Unit 2.
- Review the content in the Kirkpatrick and Feeney text on One-Way ANOVA and the calculating of an F test and Post Hoc Tests (see Chapter 10 ).
- Read the SPSS Step-by-Step Instructions: ANOVA / F Statistic that are written with the exact process and the same variables and values as your assignment.
Your Seventh SPSS Assignment
Calculate an F-test (ANOVA) for three independent groups using the level of English in ninth grade as the independent variable, and IQ as the dependent variable. Discuss all results and provide an interpretation that includes: correct use of descriptive statistics terminology, analysis of the three test assumptions, analysis of the F test and Post Hoc Tests, conclusions related to the research question and hypotheses, and any limitations regarding those conclusions. A minimum of 1000 words total is required for the report's four sections.
Use the Copy Object procedure to paste your SPSS output into a Word document. Be selective about the output you are pasting into the document. Use only the output that supports your statements of discussion or interpretation.
