Statistics Project
Use the data provided by the statistics survey. The following guidelines will help you organize your report. Write the paper as you would any research paper. Do not number the paper like you would a math assignment. It should have paragraphs with the required information. Do not get inventive. In other words, no PowerPoint presentations, no pretend articles. The data are from The University of Alabama, do not use a hypothetical name. The report should be word processed and double spaced with a jagged right mar in. You will find an example of a report on Blackboard. Please include a title page (no running ad). Please number the paper with numbers at the bottom, centered, on each page. The first page of th : report is page 1 . Do not put a page number on the title page. Do not use any other numbering system other than the actual page number. DO NOT have a running head. I will count off if you do.
Please do not use personal pronouns. There will be a point deduction for each personal pronoun used. A copy of the grading rubric is attached so that you may see how I will grade the projects. Please attach the rubric lo the front of the report. You will find the data set on Blackboard. Do not use any other data set. If you 'o, you will receive a 'zero' for the paper. There is a sample write up on Blackboard. I did add extra to the write up (graphs). You are only required to include what is on the rubric
- The first section of the report should have the heading "Introduction." In this section, state the source of the information. The data come from several BER classes, not just statistics' classes. What are the hypotheses? The hypotheses must be research hypotheses and must be logical.
-
The second section should have the heading "Sample." Describe the data. How many students answered the survey? Choose at least two demographics (variables) from the survey and describe using frequencies and/or percentages. Choose at least two more of the survey items to describe by using either graphs, charts, and /or tables. These two variables are different from the variables that you described using frequencies. You must have two different types of graphs, charts, and/or tables. You can use copy object/paste special from SPSSQ if you want. Be careful with graphs. Since a histogram is a continuous type of graph, you can only use quantitative data for a histogram. For the graphs, charts, or tables, do not use variables that have only 2 categories. The graphs/charts must be in the body or the report and labeled appropriately (Figure 1 , Table 1, etc.) -
The third section should have the heading "Results." In this section you will report:
A. Estimation. Report at least one point estimate (such as a mean, median, percent, etc.) and at least one confidence interval. This can be quantitative and/or qualitative. If qualitative, the confidence interval will have to be calculated by hand.
B. Using SPSS, report the results of two hypothesis tests. The two may be the same type. Your choices are:
- two sample mean
- chi-square test of independence
- regression analysis
- correlation
6. 1 way ANOVA
IV. Section four will have the heading "Conclusions." Summarize your results so that they could be understood by someone who knows nothing about statistics. For each hypothesis test, you must discuss why you think they were either significant or not significant. Tie the whole report together.
