Introduction
Leadership is the essence of human resource management. Employee behavior, while possessing an individual element, also functions as a group, adapting to the structural environment in an organization. When the leadership is weak, poor employee performance, high employee turnover, and low employee morale often manifest, damaging the integrity of the organization and the organization´s competitiveness in the market (Kerzner, 2013).
Of particular interest in the literature on organizational leadership are the constructs of transformation vs. servant leadership. These constructs represent two of the major leadership styles constructed through past research. In the healthcare organization, the manifestation of these two types of leadership can be key to achieving a highly effective and functional organization.
Statement of the Problem
As creating and maintaining a quality employee team is vital for success and safety in a health care organization, it is essential that the relevant factors are fully understood. To date, there is a great deal of understanding about the effect HR leadership has on employee turnover. However, research on specific aspects of leadership, and the degree to which they contribute to HR effectiveness on reducing employee turnover, is not yet fully developed. Because leadership is a multifaceted construct, it is essential to develop and isolate the effects of different qualities related to leadership and analyze them according to their individual and summary influences on health care organizations.
