Section 1: Histograms and Visual Inspection
Refer to your Unit 3 assignment instructions for a list of assigned Section 1 variables. The example variable "final" is shown below.
Step 1. Open grades.sav in SPSS.
Step 2. Select Graphs Legacy Dialogs Histogram…
Step 3. The Histogram option appears.
• First, select your assigned Unit 3 Assignment 1 variable. Move it to the Variable window. Refer to the Unit 3 assignment instructions for the assigned variable; the example of "final" appears below.
• Second, select the "Display normal curve" option.
• Third, move gender to the Rows window.
• Fourth, click OK to generate the histogram output.
Step 4. The histogram output appears in SPSS. Copy your SPSS output. To do this, right-click your mouse on the image and select Copy.
Step 5. Open a new MS Word file and right-click your mouse for the paste option. Paste the histogram output into the MS Word document. Below the histograms, write up your visual interpretations as assigned in your Unit 3 assignment.
Section 2: Calculate and Interpret Measures of Central Tendency and Dispersion
Refer to the Unit 3 assignment instructions for a list of assigned Section 2 variables. The example variable "final" is shown below.
Step 6. Select Analyze Descriptive Statistics Descriptives…
Step 7. The Descriptives option appears.
• First, select your assigned Unit 3 assignment variables. Move them to the Variables window. The example variable "final" is shown below.
• Second, select the Options button. Place a check next to Mean, Std. deviation, Kurtosis, and Skewness. Leave Display Order as Variable list. Press Continue. Click OK. The Descriptives output is generated in SPSS for your assigned Unit 3 assignment 1 variables.
• Third, copy the Descriptives output and paste into your MS Word document. Below the output, write up your analyses as assigned in the Unit 3 assignment instructions.
