Conducting an Independent Samples t-test

Let’s assume that your research question deals with the aggression levels of psychology and fitness majors. You believe (for some theoretical reason) that fitness majors are more aggressive than those ‘touchy-feely " psychology majors. So, your research question becomes: "Are fitness majors more aggressive than psychology majors?"

Use SPSS and the data below to compute an independent samples t-test. (You need to know why this is an independent samples t-test!) Note that in SPSS, you will need to code the major variable to represent the two groups numerically. Once you set up the t-test commands in the SPSS window, you will be asked to tell the computer what the grouping variable is.

Submit (a) your SPSS data file, (b) your SPSS output, (c) write-up of results. For the write-up, explain your results as you would in a journal article.
