Assignment #3

For all computer assignments:

You are expected to do your own work. You may seek help from others to learn how to carry out a procedure, but you are to do all aspects of the assignment yourself. Therefore you should work through the complete assignment seeking help as necessary. If you do so without help- great. However if you have had help along the way with any aspect of a major component of the assignment (the major components are underlined on the assignment handouts), then you should repeat the work on that component from beginning to end on your own. The work you turn in should represent your independent working of the assignment. The cover sheets that you sign will attest to this. In addition, responses to interpretation items should be phrased in your own words.

For this assignment:

- Define the variables:

o use the column heads for variable names

- each variable is numeric; make the width appropriate to the values for the variable

(only gpa needs decimal values, the others should have decimal=0)

- label each variable according to the list on back

- value labels are necessary for category, gender, and marital (see list on back)

o make column width equal to number of letters in column head (except for $i d$ which

should have a column width of 3 and $g p a$ which must be a width of 4)

- select appropriate scale for variable

- Enter data- print a case summary for all variables and check data entry

- Analvze data:

- do a frequency distribution and a histogram for age

- do a frequency distribution and a bar graph for gender

- use the descriptive procedure to generate mean, standard deviation, skew, and

kurtosis for gpa, greq, and grev (click options; omit minimum and maximum score; add skew and kurtosis)

- Answer the following (responses must be typed): Interpret the measures of skew and kurtosis for each of the 3 variables.

Notes:

  1. Edit the descriptives output to eliminate the "S.E. skew" and the "S.E. kurtosis".
  2. Edit your output so that you print only the items called for (1-3) and those should appear only once. Make sure the printouts will not have page breaks at inappropriate places - use print preview and edit accordingly.

Print

  1. Frequency distribution and histogram for age
  2. Frequency distribution and bar graph for gender
  3. Descriptives for gpa, greq, and grev
