  1. For the following (a. – d.) I need an APA styled results presentation created. This will include a table of results, and written inference and interpretation:

(a). Cocaine addicts need the drug to feel pleasure. Perhaps giving them a medication that fights depression will help them stay off cocaine. A three-year study compared an antidepressant called desipramine with lithium (a standard treatment for cocaine addiction) and a placebo (Source: D.M. Barnes, "Breaking the cycle of addiction," Science, 241 (1988), pp. 1029-1030). The subjects were chronic users of cocaine who wanted to break their drug habit. A number of the subjects were randomly assigned to each treatment. Here are the counts of the subjects who relapsed and avoided relapse into cocaine use during the study:

Desipramine Lithium Control

No Relapse 10 16 14

Relapse 18 22 20

Is there any evidence that relapse behavior differs by treatment?

(b). A local school board was concerned with the high rate of turnover among its teaching staff in the three district high schools. To address this problem, the board decided to implement policies that would provide teachers more control over the curriculum. In the spring of 1999, the board took an informal survey to assess the degree of satisfaction teachers had with their jobs. The new policies were then implemented in fall of 2000. In late spring of 2001, the survey was then re-administered to the same teachers. Is there any evidence that teachers displayed more satisfaction after implementation of the new policies?

Note: Higher scores on satisfaction scale indicate more satisfaction, and scores range from low (score of 1) to high (score of 10).

(c). In stocks, one measure of value is the P/E ratio. The P/E ratio is the price of the stock per share divided by the annual earnings of the company per share. For example, at one point IBM had a price of $212.92 per share, and the annual earnings per share (EPS) was $14.41. These two values provide a P/E ratio of $212.92/$14.41 = 14.775. Historically, investors have used the P/E ratio as a way to determine if a stock is overvalued or undervalued. A market-wide P/E ratio of 18 is considered standard by some economists, and if one’s investments are far above or below this ratio, then one’s investments may be risky for various reasons. Below are the P/E ratios for stocks I currently own. Do my stocks appear, on average, to be risky given the target P/E ratio of 18?

(d). Teacher’s personal teaching efficacy is the degree to which a teacher believes he or she can teach students even under difficult circumstances. Researchers believe that teaching efficacy varies according to a number of factors, including, for example, years of experience and number of students in the classroom. Teaching efficacy is measured by summing teachers’ responses to a number of items on an inventory. Responses to each item are on a Likert scale that ranges from a low of 1 to a high of 5. Is there any evidence that teaching efficacy is associated to number of students in the classroom or to years of experience?
