Correlation Between Iq And Ability In Exact Sciences

Three-year-old Selena Janik from Tennessee is one of the most intelligent kids on the planet — she has an intellectual IQ score of 135 points out of the possible 200, scoring above both Barack Obama and David Cameron. Then the little girl must be smarter than them and most people? The average IQ scientists have is about 125 and simple office clerks have an IQ of about 100 to 105. It carries the question: does IQ lie? Is it possible in general to measure something called intelligence objectively? And is there a way to reliably sort people into those who are smarter and those who aren’t?

Can We Compare IQ Levels?

Is it possible to measure people’s intelligence as we do their physical strength in the tug of war or in arm wrestling? The answer is probably no because there is no instrument on which to measure intelligence or giftedness. You can even compare the same free IQ test results given to people, and that’s wrong. The brain works differently for everybody, it’s more focused on this or that type of activity.

The IQ test measures only what is known about general intelligence, such as the capacity to handle logic in working with data. Usually, theoretical physicists have the highest IQ. The way of thinking is this: they are constantly thinking about the most complicated speculative models, it is easy to pass these tests for them. For example, can we say that Aivazovsky is stupider than Landau? No, absolutely not. All of them have differing types of intelligence. For example, a person with real artistic talent typically performs much, much lower on IQ tests than a mathematician. Yet it cannot be concluded from this.

What IQ Really Is

The IQ is mental maturity divided by biological age. The program was originally created for school students. The researchers then teamed up with child psychologists and teachers and combined their ideas to create a list of what a child should have learned at similar ages. If all you do is what you’re supposed to do at age, your IQ is 100. A hundred is the norm. If you can do something extra, take your 105, 120, or 140 points. If you didn't or couldn’t learn something on time, then you’ll get 95, 92, and 87. And so on.

All those with developmental delays are characterized by an IQ below 90. Comparing the girl and Obama is wrong. Maybe the girl knows some things that her peers don't know. Most three-year-olds aren’t as advanced as she is. She is still a small child, but when compared to an adult. Various scales are used to measure their IQs. They are not comparable.

Understanding What IQ Levels Mean

There are six fundamental categories of intelligence:

  • Logical intelligence: Ability to understand, conceptualize, and compare;
  • Academic Intelligence: It means the uptake of ready-made knowledge;
  • Social Intelligence: Its possessors easily understand the mood and interests of people, and can carry them along;
  • Artistic Intelligence: It is the ability to handle images, create them, or understand other metaphors and allegories of people;
  • Practical Intelligence: Categorized as those with 'golden hands' these individuals can actually put together, make, repair, or build anything;
  • Sensorimotor Intelligence: The control we have over our own body.

We all have different kinds of intelligence. Nevertheless, some will predominate, some will be pronounced, and a few will disappoint. You can’t compare physicists and artists because their intelligence is so different. Nevertheless, a man devoid of logical intelligence would have no possibility to enjoy talent, regardless of how much he has got. A painter will not see beauty in a landscape or in a model, an actor will not be aware of the director's vision and not know how to play the scene. An athlete won't calculate his strength and he will collapse in the middle of the race from exhaustion.

Logical intelligence is what is measured by the IQ index. More likely to have an IQ above 130 points are those who excel at science. A mere score of 110 includes a means for an actor or athlete to be a success in their field. So they are not less intelligent, their talent is manifested through other mechanisms that cannot be captured in this test. When IQ is less than 90 points we can talk about mental retardation. You can’t accomplish much with such intelligence. But there are exceptions.

Conclusion

While IQ tests provide a standardized measure of logical intelligence, they do not represent the entire range of human intelligence. Individuals have different types of intelligence—logical, social, artistic, practical, or sensory-motor—that cannot be accurately measured using a single numerical value.
