Old Faithful Geyser Problem 1
Duration of Eruption vs. Time Interval after Eruption
Assignment ID#
C1
EXCEL
The Old Faithful geyser is the most popular attraction in Yellowstone National Park. When Old Faithful erupts, measurements are taken so as to collect data about the duration of eruptions, the interval before an eruption, the time interval after an eruption and the height of the eruption. This data provides essential information to the park rangers so that they can attend to the needs and the safety of the millions of tourist who visit Yellowstone National Park every year.
Table 5.1 shows those measurements taken from a sample of population data that has been recorded over the years.
| Eruption | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | |
| Duration of Eruption | Seconds | 240 | 120 | 178 | 234 | 235 | 269 | 225 | 220 |
| Interval Before an Eruption | Minutes | 98 | 90 | 92 | 98 | 93 | 105 | 81 | 108 |
| Interval After an Eruption | Minutes | 92 | 65 | 72 | 94 | 83 | 94 | 101 | 87 |
| Height of Eruption | Feet | 140 | 110 | 125 | 120 | 140 | 120 | 125 | 130 |

Find the value of the linear correlation coefficient r for the Duration of Eruption time vs. The time Interval after the Eruption for the 8 recorded eruptions. Use the critical value of alpha = .05. to test the significance of your calculation. See Table 5.1 for the data.
- Title your paper
