Anorexia nervosa is a prevalent condition, affecting one out of two hundred women in the United States of America between the ages of eighteen to forty (Neumark-Sztainer, 2005). Anorexia Nervosa is an illness where individuals who are affected by the disorder will do anything to be thin. Individuals with Anorexia Nervosa strive to achieve an unrealistic weight and will take extreme measures to do so. Women who suffer from anorexia nervosa strive for their desired weight by under eating or restricting all food intake. The lack of food intake can take a toll on an anorexic woman’s body which can lead to severe medical complications that can even lead to death. Anorexia nervosa has significant negative consequences for those who suffer from this condition resulting from semi starvation and over exercising affect virtually every organ system. Common signs and symptoms include loss of subcutaneous fat tissue, orthostatic hypotension, bradycardia, impaired menstrual function, hair loss, and hypothermia (Sidiropoulos, 2007).
