The graduate understands and applies the principles of trigonometry; mathematical modeling; and logarithmic, exponential, polynomial and rational functions.
Objective 202.4.1-01:
Model and solve problems using rational, absolute value, logarithmic, exponential, trigonometric, and step defined functions given sets of data and mathematics situations (such as data representing population growth, data representing the cost of postage, decay of radioactive elements, etc.); and discuss the accuracy of the model.
Given:
An investment advisor is planning the retirement of a customer. The customer has $10,000 dollars to invest and needs the investment to increase to $30,000 within 20 years.
Task:
A. Prepare a report in order to advise the customer. The report should include three sections, as described below.
1. An introductory paragraph that reviews the customer’s requirements for the investment plan.
2. Three different investment plans including at least one example of an actual investment, the average growth rate over the past several years, and the time required to increase the investment to $30,000.
3. Finally, a concluding paragraph that summarizes the three investment plans and makes a recommendation.
