The Precise Molded Products, Inc. Case

Introduction

The objective of this paper is to analyze the data obtained by the quality inspectors from Precise Molded, Inc. so that a complete quality assessment is provided, using various tools including X-bar charts, R charts, p charts and Pareto charts.

Quality Control

The data from two days for length and width were collected (for a total of 32 samples, with a sample size of n = 4). Also, a record of rejected items was collected so that an analysis of the most important causes of rejection can be performed (via a Pareto chart).

X-bar and R charts

With the 32 samples (each of them of size n = 4) the average and range of each can be computed, and the control limits for both the X-bar chart and R chart can be obtained (see the appendix for details of the calculations). The following charts are obtained:
